44 individual lawsuits have been consolidated under a master complaint against Kettering Health following a May 20, 2025 ransomware attack that crippled the Dayton-region health system’s operations.
- 37 of 44 complaints allege delayed treatment; 8 allege outright denial of care. One complaint alleges both.
- Plaintiffs cite harm from appointments rescheduled months later — or never rescheduled — plus delays in prescriptions and treatments across 15+ Kettering Health locations.
- The master complaint asserts six counts: negligence, gross negligence, emotional distress, breach of contract, and claims against unidentified parties.
- Plaintiffs seek compensatory damages exceeding $25,000, punitive damages, and attorney fees.
- Judge Angelina Jackson presides over all consolidated cases, originating from a personal injury filing in October 2025.
The Cyberattack
The ransomware group Interlock attacked Kettering Health on May 20, 2025, forcing a system-wide shutdown. The group reportedly exfiltrated 941 GB of data (732,000+ files). Kettering’s Epic EHR system was restored June 2; normal operations resumed June 10. Services were temporarily diverted to Premier Health and Dayton Children’s Hospital.
