Nano Well-Being Health Inc. Issues Super Arthgold Recall After FDA Reported Three Undeclared Drugs Were Found In The Atrhritis Suppliement That Could Cause Damaging And Possible Fatal Side-Effects
California-based supplement manufacturer Nano Well-being Health Inc. voluntarily issued an Arthgold recall, anthe arthritis product Super Arthgold after an FDA test revealed the supplement contains three undeclared drugs. The drugs include a muscle relaxer and two and two non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) which could increase the damaging side-effects from the supplement due to possible allergies or drug interactions. The FDA stated in a press release from April 21, 2014 that using the product, “has a reasonable probability of resulting in fatal adverse events in consumers and patients with underlying illnesses, including known allergy to the hidden ingredients, cardiac, gastrointestinal, hepatic, and renal conditions.” To date, no illnesses or complications from the use of the supplement have been reported to the FDA.
Nano Well-Being Health Inc. issued the Super Arthgold recall under two separate lots:
- Lot number L1P2-6000 with an expiration date of Sept. 16, 2016
- Lot number L1P1-6100, with an expiration date of June 25, 2016.
Both lots are sold with bottles containing 120 500 mg capsules. The original purpose of the supplement was to help relieve the effects of arthritis pain. The supplement was sold nationally through a variety of retailers with brick and mortar locations as well as through many online retailers. Consumers who already have purchased the supplement should return the products to the place where they purchased the supplements.
During the safety testing of Super Arthgold supplements, the FDA found that the Super Arthgold contains the drugs chlorzoxazone, diclofenac and indomethacin. Diclofenac and indomethacin are both NSAIDs, which are used for pain relief. They work to relieve pain by reducing inflammation in the body and are available as over-the-counter medication. According to the FDA, extended use of NSAIDs can increase the risk for cardiovascular events, like congestive heart failure, strokes, or heart attacks. They may also cause internal gastrointestinal bleeding if taken in high doses. The FDA states that taking a supplement with undisclosed medications is highly dangerous, as it can increase the likelihood of a dangerous reaction, particularly if the consumer also takes other NSAIDs at the same time. Chlorzoxazone is a common muscle relaxer sold under the brand name Paraflex in other medications. Taking undisclosed amounts of Chlorzoxazone could result in side effects such as vomiting, nausea, dizziness, and liver damage.
