Bard is named a defendant in more than 800 transvaginal mesh lawsuit or bladder mesh lawsuits. This transvaginal mesh settlement comes just weeks after C.R. Bard agreed to another undisclosed vaginal mesh settlement in a federally-filed transvaginal mesh lawsuit that was scheduled for trial in a multidistrict litigation underway in U.S. District Court, Southern District of West Virginia. According to court documents, that settlement was reached just a week after the jury hearing the first Avaulta bellwether trial in the federal litigation awarded $2 million to the plaintiff. Data from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) indicates that thousands of women with pelvic organ prolapse and stress urinary incontinence have had transvaginal mesh devices implanted to treat the disorders.
