On January 8th, Fisher Price announced the product recall of approximately 800,00 Rock’n Play Infant Sleepers due to risk of mold exposure to infants. With the Rock’n Play Sleeper recall came a warning from the CPSC to consumers that mold can develop between the removable seat cushion and the plastic tubular frame if the sleeper remains wet or is infrequently cleaned. The agency when on to say that mold can be associated with respiratory illnesses and other infections.

Fisher-Price has received 600 reports of mold and 16 reports of infants being treated for respiratory issues, coughs and hives after being in the Fisher-Price Infant sleeper.

The Fisher Price Rock’n Play Infant Sleeper lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Tuscaloosa, states the Tuscaloosa couple’s three-month-old son had been hospitalized at Children’s Hospital for two or three days for the respiratory syncytial virus related to bronchiolitis. The lawsuit also states, the child has also had an incessant cough, eye and ear infections along with random vomiting for the past couple of months.

According to The CDC, Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), is a respiratory virus that infects the lungs and breathing passages. Most otherwise healthy people recover from RSV infection in 1 to 2 weeks. However, infections can be severe in infants. In fact, RSV is the most common cause of bronchiolitis and pneumonia in children under 1 year of age in the United States.
