Nexium Lawsuits Allege Proton Pump Inhibitor Drugs, Like Nexium, Have The Potential To Cause Chronic Kidney Disease, Kidney Damage, and Kidney Failure.

Nexium Lawsuit Kidney Damage Lawsuits LawyerAs AstraZeneca continues to defend itself in pending Nexium lawsuits, the company is facing new Nexium lawsuits alleging its popular “Purple Pill” causes kidney problems. The five Nexium lawsuits filed in federal courts since May contend that AstraZeneca failed to adequately warn that its Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI) can increase the risk of chronic kidney disease and kidney failure. PPI’s, such as Nexium, are a class of drugs prescribed to treat peptic or stomach ulcers, acid reflux, dyspepsia, and other conditions, according to the Nexium complaints.

“It’s unfortunate that individuals who were prescribed Nexium are now suffering serious, and in some cases, fatal injuries,” says Wright & Schulte LLC, a nationwide law firm which represents individuals in product liability lawsuits.

The attorneys at Wright & Schulte LLC are investigating legal claims surrounding Nexium lawsuits. The firm continues to speak with men and women from around the country who believe they have developed chronic kidney disease, kidney damage, kidney failure, hip, wrist or spine fractures or death caused by taking Nexium and other Proton Pump Inhibitor drugs. If you or a loved one have suffered serious injuries from Nexium or Proton Pump Inhibitor medication, contact Wright & Schulte LLC for a free Nexium lawsuit consultation by calling 1-800-399-0795 or you can visit yourlegalhelp.com for more information.

Court documents indicate the first Nexium lawsuit was filed in May on behalf of an Illinois man who was prescribed Nexium in 2006 and later suffered kidney failure that required a kidney transplant. (Nexium Lawsuit Case No. 3:16-cv-00493, U.S. District Court, Southern District of Illinois) Other Nexium lawsuit complaints were filed on behalf of:

  • A New Jersey man who was prescribed Nexium in 2004 and was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease in 2014. (Nexium Lawsuit Case No. 2:16-cv-05143, U.S. District Court, District of New Jersey)
  • A Tennessee man who was prescribed Nexium in 2003 and was
diagnosed in 2008 with acute interstitial nephritis (inflammation of the
kidneys). In 2009, he was diagnosed with severe chronic active interstitial
nephritis and now undergoes dialysis treatments and needs a kidney
transplant. (Nexium Lawsuit Case No. 2:16-cv-02549, U.S. District Court, Western District
    of Tennessee)
  • An Illinois man who was prescribed Nexium from 2006 to 2013 and
suffered chronic kidney disease in 2008. (Nexium Lawsuit Case No.1:16-cv-04801, U.S.
District Court, Eastern District of New York)
  • A New Jersey woman who took Nexium from January 2011 through
September 2014 and suffered chronic kidney disease in July 2014. (Nexium Lawsuit Case
No. 3:16-cv-05042, U.S. District Court, District of New Jersey)
  • All of the plaintiffs said that they followed the directions regarding the use of Nexium and would not have taken the drug had they been properly told about the health risks.

Recent studies have found PPIs, like Nexium, can lead to kidney problems. For instance, a study published in the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology in April found long-term use of PPI drugs can increase the risk of chronic kidney disease, kidney damage, kidney failure and End-Stage Renal Disease.

In addition to allegations of kidney damage, AstraZeneca is named as a defendant in lawsuits alleging Nexium causes bone and fracture problems. Court records indicate that federal Nexium lawsuits alleging bone and fracture problems have been centralized for coordinated pretrial proceedings in the U.S. District Court, Central District of California.
