Laundry Pod Lawsuits Allege That Highly Concentrated Detergent Causes Serious Or Fatal Injury To Young Children And The Elderly.
As laundry pod lawsuits allege serious and fatal injuries due to exposure to the liquid detergent, poison centers nationwide are logging more calls of young children’s exposure to colorful detergent pods that resemble candy. The American Association of Poison Control Centers (AAPCC) reports that 7,887 children 5 and younger were exposed to the single load, highly concentrated laundry detergent from January 1 to August 31. That means an additional 1,044 calls were made since July 31 when 6,843 calls had come into poison centers since January 1. Numerous laundry pod lawsuits have been filed against detergent manufacturers include Tide alleging injuries and death due to laundry pod poisoning.
“We continue to speak with families of young children and the elderly who have experienced laundry pod poisoning. That along with the calls that come into the poison control centers show that laundry detergent pods still present a danger to our children and elderly family members,” says Richard Schulte, co-founder of Wright & Schulte LLC, which is currently representing families in laundry detergent pod lawsuits.
The firm continues to offer no-obligation legal consultations to families whose children or senior adults have be harmed by laundry detergent products such as Procter & Gamble’s Tide Pods, Gain Flings Laundry Detergent Pods, and Sun Products Corporation’s All Mighty Pacs. According to the AAPCC, laundry detergent pod exposure means that a child had some type of contact with the pod, either by ingesting, inhaling or absorbing into the eyes or skin. Not all exposures, however, are poisonings or overdoses. The exposure can cause children to experience excessive vomiting, wheezing and gasping, drowsiness, and breathing problems serious enough to need a ventilator to help them breathe, the AAPCC says.
Wright & Schulte LLC continues to speak to families affected by the dangers of laundry detergent pods. The law firm is representing the families of 13 children in laundry pod lawsuits who were injured after ingesting Procter & Gamble’s Tide Pods laundry detergent. Parents and consumer safety groups have called for laundry detergent pods manufacturers to make their products safer. In 2015, the Detergent Poisoning And Child Safety Act was introduced in the U.S. House and Senate requiring laundry detergent manufacturers to add more safety warnings, make the pods less colorful and attractive to children, and change the highly concentrated formula, among other things. In response to the outcry, detergent manufacturers agreed to voluntary implement new safety standards. For instance, Procter & Gamble changed its Tide Pods packaging so the brightly colored pods cannot be seen, added Child-Guard zippers to make it harder for children to open, and added a bitter-tasting coating to the pods.
