Yaz Birth Control

Yaz-Lawsuit-Yasmin-Lawsuit-Side-Effects-2Yaz contains a hormone called drospirenone that some experts say may cause more blood clots and pulmonary embolisms than other birth control pills. Blood clots can cause serious breathing problems, a stroke or even death.

It is noted that all birth control pills come with some risk. Out of 10,000 women on the pill, two to four women will suffer blood clots, and some will die as a result, as mentioned in an ABC News article. With Yaz, several new independent studies have put that risk at two to three times higher.

“It’s a disappointing finding,” said Dr. Susan Jick also in the article and author of one of those independent studies involving almost a million women. “As a public safety concern that’s not what one wants to find.”

In 2006 a year after it’s initial release, sales of Yaz skyrocketed to nearly $2 billion dollars making it the leading birth control pill available. Made by Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals, it quickly became Bayer’s top-selling drug.
