After A REcent NSAID Heart Attack Warning From The FDA, Users of Celebrex, Motrin, Aleve and other NSAIDs May Be Entitled to Compensation for Heart Attacks and Strokes Allegedly Related to Use of the Pain Relieving Medications
In response to a recent NSAID Heart Attack warning from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) regarding the potential association between the use of NSAIDs and hearts attacks and strokes, Wright & Schulte LLC is now investigating possible lawsuits against the manufacturers of Celebrex, Motrin and Aleve. Individuals who experienced serious cardiovascular complications while using these pain relieving medications may be entitled to financial compensation for their pain and suffering.
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) include brand name and generic versions of ibuprofen, naproxen sodium and celecoxib. NSAIDs are some of the most commonly used drugs to relieve pain from arthritis, headaches, muscle strain and more. NSAID labels had previously stated that the drugs may be associated with an increased risk of heart attack and stroke. But the FDA recently determined that the information provided was not adequate, following a review of available clinical trial and study data.

In July, the FDA asked all NSAID manufacturers to strengthen cardiovascular warnings on their product labels to state that they can increase the risk of serious cardiovascular thrombotic events, including potentially fatal myocardial infarction (heart attack) and strokes. This heightened risk likely increases with higher doses and extended use, and may occur as early as the first weeks of using an NSAID. However, no period is without risk, and the danger may even extend to those without an underlying risk of cardiovascular disease.
The FDA has indicated that individuals who experience a first heart attack were more likely to die within the first year if they use NSAIDs after the event. Taking NSAIDs could reduce effectiveness of low-dose aspirin in preventing heart attacks and strokes. While some NSAIDs may carry a higher risk than others, there is not sufficient information for the FDA to single out which medications carry the greatest risk at this time.
The agency has advised consumers to avoid taking multiple NSAIDs at one time, noting that some prescription medications contain NSAIDs. To avoid inadvertently increasing heart risks, it is important to check the labels of all medications to be aware of which ones include NSAIDs as an ingredient.
Individuals who suffered a heart attack or stroke that could be associated with NSAIDs may be entitled to compensation from the drug’s manufacturer.
